Prevention Strategies

Individual Strategies

Individual-level interventions target students, including those in higher-risk groups such as first-year students, members of Greek organizations, student-athletes, and mandated students. They are designed to change students’ knowledge, attitudes, and behaviors related to alcohol so that they drink less, take fewer risks and experience fewer harmful consequences.

Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏÂÛ̳ implements the following categories of individual-level interventions.

  • Education and awareness programs, campaigns, and activities
  • Virtual alcohol and drug education courses
  • Skills training and practice
  • °ä´Ç³Ü²Ô²õ±ð±ô¾±²Ô²µÌýand behavioral therapy
  • Referrals for treatment

Environmental Strategies

Environmental-level strategies target the campus community and student population as a whole and are designed to change the environments in which drinking occurs. A major goal is to reduce the availability of alcohol, which cuts consumption and harmful consequences.

The following environmental-level approaches are implemented.

  • ³§³Ü²ú²õ³Ù²¹²Ô³¦±ð-´Ú°ù±ð±ðÌý³¦²¹³¾±è³Ü²õ
  • Providing alcohol-free social activities and events
  • Bystander Intervention programs
  • Enforcing the age-21 minimum legal drinking age
  • Campus police and party monitors at social events
  • Scheduling classes on Friday
  • Keeping the library and recreational facilities open longer
  • Campus-wide media campaigns
